I have uploaded a newer version of a file but Moodle is still displaying the old version. What can I do?

You may need to rename the file and choose it again.

To do this:
- Click on Files in your Moodle course administration block
- Locate the relevant file
- To the right of the file click on “Rename”
- Change the name and then click on “Rename”
- Go back to your course page
- Click on the update icon next to the link to the file
- Click on “Choose or upload a file”
- Click on “Choose” to the right of the renamed file
- Click on “Save changes”

An alternative approach is to give the file a different version name before uploading it into Moodle, and then change the link to point to the new version.

(This is not in fact a technical problem within Moodle, but is dependent on the viewer’s browser. Some browsers ‘cache’ or save files in Moodle as you view them. This is designed to make it quicker to review the same document if you happen to need it again at another time. However, it means that when you are editing, your browser only calls up the first version of the document and does not ‘cache’ the later versions. If someone else was to access the file, they would see the new version.)

I am trying to remove a photo in my Moodle profile and add another one but it keeps reverting back to the first. How can I change this?

It is recommended that you give your new photo a different filename to the previous one. This should fix the problem.

You may also need to clear the History and the Cache in your web browser to see the changes on your computer.

How can I use quizzes from one course in another course?

    There are two options:

    1) You can publish the category which the quiz questions are currently in. However, this will make your category questions visible, usable and editable by any teacher in Moodle. This is not recommended, and will not work if you are using images in your questions.

    or

    2) You can create a backup of the first course, selecting just quizzes (and course files, if there are any images in the quiz). You can then upload this file into your second Moodle course and restore it, “adding to the existing course”. (See the Guide on Backing up and restoring Moodle courses for further details on this.

  • How can I send a message to all the students on my course ?

To send a message to all students in a Moodle course use a forum. The news forum is provided in all Moodle courses by default, and could be used for this. Make sure that in the forum settings, the option “Force everyone to be subscribed?” is set at “Yes, Forever”. This means that students will receive an e-mail copy of any posts in the forum. You may also wish to change the forum settings so that students can’t post replies. Set “Can a student post to this forum?” to “No discussion, no replies”.  In this way, the forum becomes a one-way channel of communication for staff to give students information. Other fora can of course be set up where students can post replies and create discussions.
