How can I get a Moodle course created for a unit in a future semester?

1. Check with your departmental administrator, or whoever in your department can add data to SAMIS, that you are listed as the Module tutor on SAMIS for the unit. If you are not, then ask them to add you.
2. Log in to Moodle and go to the Staff area
3. In the bottom right hand corner you will see the “Create your courses” wizard
4. Click on “Start Wizard”
5. Enter the year and period and click on “make my courses”

How can I get a course created in Moodle which isn’t in SAMIS?

Contact e-learning@bath.ac.uk with details of the course name, a short name for it (max 11 characters) and staff who will need teacher/administrator access.

How can I copy activities from one course to another?

Activities can be copied by using the “Import course data” tool. This copies all activities of a selected type or types from one course to another:

  • Go in to the course you want the activities to be copied to
  • Click on “Import course data” (in the administration menu)
  • Choose the course you want to copy the activities from in the “courses I have taught” drop down menu
  • Click on “use this course”
  • Select the desired activities from the list
  • If you have files e.g. images linked into the activities then in the course files drop down menu select “yes”.
  • Click continue 4 times.
  • All selected activities will be imported into the current course, and will be placed in the same topic sections as they were in in the course from which they came.
  • You may then need to either move activities or delete unwanted ones.

Can I have a Moodle course for a programme?

Yes. Moodle courses can be used to represent a unit , programme or even department. Students registered on a programme in SAMIS will automatically have access to a Moodle course for their programme in Moodle.
