I see a yellow information bar at the top of the screen when you click on the link to download a file. What should I do?

This is an Internet Explorer 7 issue. If you do see this, then you need to click on the bar and select “Download file”.

It is possible to turn off download blocking of the Information Bar, as follows:

  • From the Tools menu - top right on IE7 - select Internet Options.
  • Select the Security Tab.
  • Select the Internet Zone (click the globe on the left).
  • Hit Custom Level button (bottom of dialogue box)
  • Scroll down to the Downloads section and find the Automatic prompting -for file downloads setting and set it to Enable, then click on OK.

I have uploaded a newer version of a file but Moodle is still displaying the old version. What can I do?

You may need to rename the file and choose it again.

To do this:
- Click on Files in your Moodle course administration block
- Locate the relevant file
- To the right of the file click on “Rename”
- Change the name and then click on “Rename”
- Go back to your course page
- Click on the update icon next to the link to the file
- Click on “Choose or upload a file”
- Click on “Choose” to the right of the renamed file
- Click on “Save changes”

An alternative approach is to give the file a different version name before uploading it into Moodle, and then change the link to point to the new version.

(This is not in fact a technical problem within Moodle, but is dependent on the viewer’s browser. Some browsers ‘cache’ or save files in Moodle as you view them. This is designed to make it quicker to review the same document if you happen to need it again at another time. However, it means that when you are editing, your browser only calls up the first version of the document and does not ‘cache’ the later versions. If someone else was to access the file, they would see the new version.)
